Desiree Owens received our 2019 scholarship. She is an adult nursing student at Jefferson State Community College (Birmingham Campus). Desiree made some bad decision when she was younger and dropped out of school causing her GPA to drop. Due to a low GPA, she was no longer eligible for financial aide. Desiree made a decision she was going to go back to school and get her Bachelors in Nursing no matter the cost. So she went back taking one course at a time, paying out-of-pocket. When she had been accepted into the nursing program, she applied for DBRN's scholarship and was awarded $1000.00.
Chantilyn Carson is one of two 2018 scholarship recipients. She was awarded a $1500.00 scholarship. Chantilyn is a single parent of two teenagers. Although she had completed the required curriculum, she could not receive her degree due to financial hardship. DBRN stepped in and negotiated the payable balance with the school. She received a Bachelors Degree in Human Resource Management from Faulkner University, Birmingham Campus. (click the arrow to hear her story.)
